Emily J. Flies
I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Buffalo, with double majors in Anthropology and Psychology. After a few years teaching outdoor education and studying Spanish and the behavioural ecology of monkeys in Costa Rica and Bolivia, I returned to academia to conduct a master's degree at Michigan State University in the Fisheries and Wildlife Department (completed in 2012). My thesis was on the ecology of a tick-borne bacteria and I completed dual concentrations in "Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior" and "Disease Ecology and Conservation Medicine". I moved to Australia to complete my PhD entitled "The ecology and epidemiology of Ross River virus in South Australia" (completed in 2016) at the University of South Australia. I am now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Dynamics of Eco-evolutionary Patterns (DEEP) lab at the University of Tasmania and I moonlight as a postdoctoral science writer for the University of Adelaide.
