Andreas Kupz

Andreas Kupz is an NHMRC Investigator and leads the Tuberculosis Vaccinology group at the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM) at James Cook University. Andreas studied biology at Humboldt-University in Berlin and completed a PhD in microbiology and immunology at the University of Melbourne. He performed his postdoctoral training at the Max-Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Germany. His interests include microbiology, immunology and vaccine development. His current research focuses on interactions between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the host immune system and their implications for the development of new vaccines, including in the context of immunosuppression. He is co-chair of the ‘Live Attenuated Vaccines’ research community at the Collaboration for Tuberculosis Vaccine Discovery (CTVD) consortium hosted by the Gates Foundation.
